Hi, my name is Huw Marks and I am the owner of teapod. Running a speciality tea house is a bit different to what I used to do which was to produce programmes like Newsnight and Panorama at the BBC. But its more fun and the customers are nicer!
We launched teapod in early 2008. We wanted to create something different to the endless Starbucks and Costa’s that you find in every high street where people could enjoy great quality loose leaf tea as well as coffee and food.
teapod takes shape
The aim was to make it a million miles away from the traditional chintzy English teahouse but to still serve great quality speciality teas in proper teapots. We spent a long time looking at places throughout the UK, in Europe and I also travelled with my daughter Kate to New York and Chicago to look at some the the new tea and coffee houses that were springing up there.
The result is teapod. Its definitely modern – lime green, pink and orange! And we hope its a bit different from the usual – certainly lots of our customers say nice things, which is great.
