Dark Vanilla Cream

This wonderfully smooth flavoured black tea is a particular delight in the afternoon with sweet and savoury treats. Our vanilla cream is a rich blend of Sri Lankan black tea and natural vanilla flavour which provides a luxuriant alternative to more traditional black teas. We’ve then added just a hint of cocoa shells for a little kick of chocolate to round-off this aromatic combination.

Earl Grey

It is to the 2nd Earl Grey, British Prime Minister in the 1830‘s that we owe thanks for this classic black tea. Earl Grey is one of the most famous tea blends – Sri Lankan Uva black tea flavoured with natural Bergamot, the oil from a vibrant citrus tree. The good Earl apparently fell in love with it after receiving a gift from a Chinese diplomat. Our Earl Grey adds an extra citrus twist from Lemon peel and a touch of colour from beautiful cornflowers.

Lapsang Souchong Tea

This aromatic and smoky black tea is the true connoisseur’s choice. Lapsang Souchong is traditionally dried over smouldering pinewood using artisan skills handed down from generation to generation. It is one of China’s most famous black teas although here in the West we tend to love or hate its tarry, pungent flavours.

Light Spring Darjeeling

Of all the black teas, Darjeeling is the most mysterious and romantic. Grown in centuries old tea gardens in the foothills of the Indian Himalayas where the elements of rainfall, mellow mists, sunshine and rich soil combine to provide the perfect conditions for this – the champagne of teas. Spring or first flush Darjeelings are the highest quality offering a light, aromatic taste with hints of fruity muscatel. Because of their delicacy, Darjeeling teas are usually drunk without milk although they can take a little if brewed strong.

Spicy Masala Chai

Traditionally drunk in parts of India and Nepal, Masala Chai – literally spiced tea – is a combination of black tea, spices, milk and plenty of sugar. Often brewed in a big vat on a stove, each family will have their own secret recipe passed down through the generations.
Our version contains Indian Assam black tea, Sri Lankan Uva black tea, ginger root, cinnamon, cardamom seeds and red peppercorns. A touch of sugar will help to create a wonderfully warm and comforting brew.

Strong Brew

In years gone by Butler’s Wharf – home of teapod teahouse at Tower Bridge – was at the centre of the international tea trade and fast clippers would dock with speciality teas and spices from all over the world. It was heavy work loading and unloading the ship’s cargoes and a strong brew of “Rosy Lee” – cockney rhyming slang for tea – was essential to keep the spirits high. Our Strong Brew is a tribute to the east end stevedores of Butler’s Wharf – a heady, gutsy blend of teas from Assam and Kenya where it is grown by co-operative farmers who are famed for providing the best tea in East Africa.
