Buy a teapod cosy – and help some of the World’s poorest people
!
Every one of teapod’s brightly coloured tea cosies are hand-knitted by members of an HIV support group from the Korogocho slum in Nairobi, Kenya. And you can buy one in our stores for a minimum donation of £5.
Previously the families were forced to support themselves by scavenging for plastic bottles on Nairobi’s main rubbish dump. But thanks to a charity called Pendekezo Letu their children have been placed in education and they have been provided with advice and loans to help set up their own small businesses.
The support they have received has transformed their lives; enabling them to move to better, safer homes and giving them access to life saving drugs.
teapod founder Huw Marks has been a regular visitor to Nairobi’s slums as part of his work over the years with Comic Relief – taking celebrities to Africa to make the appeal films for Red Nose Day and Sport Relief
teapod is very proud to be supporting the ladies and their children from Korogocho. And here is where you come in! We ask for a minimum of £5 for a cosy and mat – you can give more if you wish – and every penny will go directly to the project to help give them the chance of a better life.
